Mastering the Art of Facilitation in Major Incident Management at Standard Bank

When the pressure is on, do your meetings enable all voices to ensure best thinking, clarity and solutions to problems?

Facilitating meetings, whether online or in person, is a skill that requires active engagement and clear outcomes. In today's business world, leaders and employees spend over 50% of their time in meetings according to the Harvard Business Review. Mastering the art of facilitation is crucial for ensuring effective and productive meetings, a leadership responsibility that becomes even more significant under pressure and in times of crisis.

Programme rollout

CreateConsulting was privileged to recently collaborate with an exceptional group of 10 Major Incident Managers and Business Service Leads from Standard Bank in a powerful Integrated Learning Journey called Fahrenheit 24.

Melanie Kiley of CreateConsulting and Sue Welman of Nabantu Partners, together with their client Michelle Slabbert from Standard Bank Service Management, crafted a tailored learning experience designed to meet the ambitious goals of Fahrenheit 24. Melanie, a seasoned Leadership Coach and Accredited Master Facilitator, and Sue, an Ontological Practitioner and Leadership Coach, combined their extensive experience to maximise the programme’s impact. Sue contributed deep insights and ontological expertise, while Melanie brought her global expertise in Whole Brain® Thinking and facilitation.

Building Facilitation Skills

Having attended CreateConsulting’s Art of Facilitation Programme with Melanie in 2018, Michelle Slabbert, Head of Group Service Management Practice, decided that the AoF needed to be an integral part of the programme. Reflecting on its impact, she shared,

"This course was phenomenal, very practical and applicable to my daily work. The integration of theory and practice, coupled with constructive feedback, was invaluable. It left me wishing the course was longer."

Effective facilitation is key to unlocking best thinking in every meeting, fostering an environment of respectful and robust discussion and driving high-quality decision-making. This challenge intensifies in virtual settings, where engaging participants requires distinct skills and strategies.

CreateConsulting’s Art of Facilitation Programme equips leaders with the necessary tools to facilitate both virtual and in-person sessions effectively, integrating hands-on application in real business contexts.

The Impact

Nine out of ten delegates rated the Art of Facilitation programme as 'Excellent,' affirming its relevance and applicability to their roles and work. Here’s what some of the delegates shared about their experience:

“I didn't realise the extent to which understanding thinking patterns and preferences can help in our line of work. Facilitation is about achieving an outcome, not dictating it.”

“The program was clear and concise, offering real-life scenarios for practical application. The facilitators were exceptional, inspiring conscious reflection. The tools provided are truly remarkable and applicable in both professional and personal contexts.”

“The experience was brilliant. It helped me recognise my strengths in facilitation and learn from my fellow leaders. This well-executed program shared a wealth of practical knowledge.”
