Whole Brain® Thinking means being able to fully leverage one’s own preferences, stretch to other quadrants when necessary, and adapt to and take advantage of the preferences of those around you to improve performance and results. It allows for far greater understanding of our cognitive diversity, and as a result creates a platform and common language for better communication, problem solving, decision making and relationship building.
Our preference to think in a particular way (Analytical, Structured, Relational, Experimental) results from using different thinking modes of our brains more frequently. Everyone has access to all four quadrants but to varying degrees.
Whole Brain® Thinking is the underpinning framework of the highly validated Herrmann Brain Dominance Instrument® (HBDI®), which measures the thinking preferences of individuals, teams and organisations.
What is the HBDI®?
The Herrmann Brain Dominance Instrument (HBDI®) is a powerful psychometric assessment that defines and describes the degree to which we think and process information in the four quadrants of the Whole Brain® Model. It provides insight into why we value certain types of information over others.
With this valuable knowledge, you can learn how to “flex” into other ways of thinking to adapt to others – how they think, what they value and how they communicate. It helps us adapt our thinking preferences to communicate effectively, improve decision making and problem solving.
A 116-question online survey that takes approximately 30-40 minutes to complete.
Individual Profile Report
After completing the survey, you receive a comprehensive HBDI® digital profile in the Thinker Portal that includes in-depth interpretation of your results, reference material about the Whole Brain® Model, comparison data, and activities for further exploration and development. You also have access to the interactive mobile HBDI® APP.
Pairs Profile Report
The HBDI® Pair Profile provides the practical tools and insights for two people - in personal or professional relationships - to interact effectively, work together more productively, and resolve issues that could be interfering with their results.
Team Profile Report
The HBDI® Team Profile provides a blueprint for building and managing teams to perform at optimum levels. As a guidepost this can be used with every team engagement and has the ability to be updated as team members change, the Team Profile is a powerful reinforcement tool for continually improving the team’s interactions, processes and results. This 13-page profile report has a variety of data sets to explore, compare or contrast and takes a deep dive into the team’s thinking preference data. Members gain a new perspectives on how to recognize, access and apply their individual and collective thinking strengths to reach the desired results.

A powerful performance tool for measuring team effectiveness and increasing productivity using a Whole Brain® perspective. It identifies how a team operates and where they could focus for better performance. This provides the team with a neutral place to voice opinions and encourages team’s to think about their functioning.
A 37 question, online anonymous diagnostic survey that takes 10-minutes to complete, revealing individual perspectives for actionable insights to help align thinking as a team. It can be repeated over time and is an ideal complement when used with the HBDI® and Team Profiles.
